Re: Research in general practice and primary care-just do it!

Whilst I agree with Dr Cindy Lam's sentiment that research in Family Medicine in the 21st century is looking hopeful and that the time is right for us to bring about a revolution (just like Dr Sun Yat Sen), I argue for prioritising and planning our strategies carefully. The critical mass is not here yet. We need to do the following tasks simultaneously:

leaders in primary care research continue to lobby for funding support from Government and other organisations

Experienced researchers continue to do good research and publish them in high impact journals

Build research capacity by attracting clinicians and non -clinicians into research careers

collaborate with other researchers to conduct health services research to improve access to health care for those most in need

Develop and trial interventions which work in the primary care setting

Build up our own research expertise and then bring others along

WE MUST ALL GET ON WITH IT!
