These awards will be presented at the 2008 STFM Annual Spring Conference, April 30-May 4, in Baltimore, Md. 2008 CURTIS G. HAMES RESEARCH AWARD IN FAMILY MEDICINE
The award, supported by the Hames Endowment of the Medical College of Georgia, is intended to honor those individuals whose careers exemplify dedication to research in family medicine. The award recipient is selected by a committee representing STFM, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the North American Primary Care Research Group. Nomination deadline for the Curtis G. Hames Research Award in Family Medicine is November 12, 2007.
2008 BEST RESEARCH PAPER AWARD
This award is intended to recognize the best research paper published by an STFM member in a peer-reviewed journal between July 1, 2006, and June 30, 2007. Award selection is based on the quality of the research and the potential effect of the paper and its importance to patients’ health and well-being. Nomination deadline is November 12, 2007.
F. MARIAN BISHOP AWARD
This award, presented by the STFM Foundation, honors individuals who have significantly enhanced the academic credibility of family medicine by a sustained, long-term commitment to family medicine in the academic setting. Nomination deadline for the F. Marian Bishop Award is October 1, 2007.
STFM RECOGNITION AWARD
This award honors an STFM member or nonmember for outstanding leadership in advancing family medicine as a discipline. The nominee’s achievements and activities should be clearly recognized as enhancing or supporting family medicine education by improving resources available for its support, by defense or support of its objectives, or by other notable service to the discipline. Such achievements should have had signifi-cance at a national level. Nomination deadline for the STFM Recognition Award is October 1, 2007.
STFM EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARD
Designed to honor outstanding teachers, this award recognizes an STFM member for personal excellence in family medicine education, with demonstrated skills in teaching, curriculum development, mentoring, research, or leadership in education at regional or national levels. The nominee must have sustained involvement in family medicine teaching. Nomination deadline for the STFM Excellence in Education Award is October 1, 2007.
STFM INNOVATIVE PROGRAM AWARD
This award honors excellence in the development of an original educational program or activity for family medicine residents, students, or faculty. It is intended to recognize a broad interpretation of innovative family medicine programs to include residency programs, clerkships, services, curricula, or other activities that have had a significant, positive impact on family medicine education. Nomination deadline for the STFM Innovative Program Award is October 1, 2007.
STFM ADVOCATE AWARD
Designed to recognize excellence in the field of political advocacy, this award honors an STFM member for outstanding work in political advocacy at the local, state, or national level. The recipient’s efforts are not restricted to legislative work but cannot be solely individual patient advocacy. Nomination deadline for the STFM Advocate Award is October 1, 2007.
