Definition

The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID) is a semistructured interview created to make reliable psychiatric diagnoses in adults according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, fourth edition (DSM-IV). The SCID has two parts: one for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders (SCID-I) and another for DSM-IV Axis II Personality Disorders (SCID-II).

In order to meet different needs, the SCID-I is available in two versions: the Research Version (SCID-I-RV; First, Spitzer, Gibbon, & Williams, 2002) and the Clinician Version (SCID-CV; First, Spitzer, Gibbon, & Williams, 1996). In contrast to the SCID-CV, the SCID-I-RV comprises more disorders, subtypes, severity, and course specifiers, and is easier to modify. The SCID-I-RV itself is also available in different versions.
