In order to evaluate the risk of the Spanish population, the Framingham-Registre Gironí del Cor (REGICOR) algorithm was performed and validated in 2003 [21]. The current guidelines of the ESC [22] suggests that is recommended to apply measures aimed to modify habits and the use of statins in those patients at low or intermedium risk with an elevated quantification of calcium in the coronary arteries measured by computerized tomography (CT), or in whom atheroma plaques are detected by a carotid Doppler ultrasonography.
