Our residency program has wrestled with the "scholarly activity" component of training for years. We have required COPC projects and journal clubs featuring the principles of evidence-based medicine. Residents' appreciation of these activities have been variable. I believe our ultimate acheivable goal is that residency graduates will utilize evidence-based principles and resources when they see patients. We have been encouraging DynaMed document authorship and reviews for residents and junior faculty. This work is not always extemely demanding of precious time. It can help teach EBM principles, contribute to a high quality community resource for primary care providers and subsidize our program budget by earning DynaMed subscription discounts. I submit this as a worthy parnership for residencies struggling with this challenging educational component.
