The first family medicine journal in the United States was the Journal of Family Practice. This was THE journal of record for academic family medicine at its beginning. The first issue published in 1974 contained 18 articles including editorials and clinical reviews with 36 authors, one of whom was apparently a woman. Another benchmark for this 21st century review of authorship.
